SUNDAY 25TH SEPT. 2011

TOPIC:
SIN AND DELIVERANCE

MEMORY VERSE:
Hebrews 3:12. “take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief , in departing from the living God”

FOCUS: To learn from Israel’s tragic cycle of sin and
hold firmly to our faith in Christ.

                                  TEXTS: Judges 2: 6-23, Judges 3:7-10, Hebrews 3:12-14

Paul instructed us not to be proud and think we capable of falling (1 Cor. 10:12). This warning was punctuated by examples of the feelings of the Israelite's in the old testament. We must understand that Paul was not wanting us to live in fear of failing, but He did want us to be aware of the danger of taking our relationship with God for granted.

When tempted to sin, we can overcome it (verse 13). We can do so by holding firmly to our faith in Christ. This lesson teaches about Israel’s tragic cycle of sin presented in the book of judges. From the example, we learn of the DANGER of DISOBEDIENCE & the GRACE of God found through REPENTANCE.

LIFE APPLICATION:
Acknowledge the need for obedience to God to maintain a relationship with him
Accept that deliverance through Christ can be obtained only by repentance
Confess the need of God’s grace and help daily

QUERIES???

Why would a loving God demand that the Israelites totally wipe out the inhabitants of the land?
Why do Christians sometimes choose to live in continuing disobedience to the Lord?
Are there things we need to do before we receive God’s mercy? if so, what?
How does God’s mercy and justice work together?
How does the cycle relate to the church world today?
How can avoid repeating negative actions in our lives?

ACTION PLAN:
Search your heart, making sure you are right with God. Then Ask God to enable you to fulfill Galatians 6:1 by reaching out with his love & compassion to any around you who are struggling; while guarding yourself so you do not fall into their sin.

  2. Paul said in one of his epistles "he that thinks he stands be careful least he fall". sometimes we think we are doing the right thing but at the end it turns out to be sin.

  3. its amazing, the extent of God's mercies. These days the realities of our seeming over-familiarity with God is disturbing. A situation which in my opinion stems from 'Spiritual Constipation'.
How long will God forbear with our weaknesses when he has already made provision for strength??? Oh help me Lord, cos i still can look to no one but you.
